the mysterious fuzz balls

Since HF was in the academy, these little black fuzz balls started appearing all over the house, but mostly in abundance in our bedroom. Here's a little pile I gathered. We didn't know what they were for so long. At first we thought it was mouse poop. There were so many fuzz balls that I though there must've been a whole rat family taking up shelter in our house (I am frightened of rodents and was ready to blow the place up with dynamite. Or at least move out.) One night when I came upstairs to go to bed I saw HF down on his hands and knees examining these little black bits that were sprinkled all over the place. We still didn't know what they were! Then one day when HF got home from work and I was just waking up, I sat up and watched as he removed his socks and began rubbing and picking off all these little fuzzies from his feet without even noticing. "It's you!" I accused. Then we felt pretty dumb for not realizing what it had been all these months. He went from wearing flip flops everyday to combat boots and thick black socks. So of course we wouldn't know where it was coming from. The only frustrating thing about it really is that our vacuum won't pick it up so I have to gather it all up by hand.

Anyone else have an infestation of black fuzz balls all over their house from their man's (or woman's) boots and socks?

Yup, or when I get in the shower straight from work, it's black fuzz goop slowly gliding from my feet towards the drain.

Here's one. Do his hips get calloused from the gun belt? That's my main complaint. I'm trying to add a beer belly just to save my hip bones. So far it's not working.

Ha! Yes, and I am also a contributor in the winter time as I wear all black or really dark socks. Sooooooo, now I cannot blame him for all the black fuzzballs!

Lately my hubby's hands and fingers have been cracking pretty bad as he washes his hands frequently as he handles ewww and ick on the job and Lord knows what, combine that with cold weather and standing in sub zero temps for extended periods to write tickets, talk to the public, go to accidents, etc.

We SO have those little fuzzies!!! Such a funny thing that I'm sure we all have in common :)

Yes! Those are everywhere and so annoying. I wear black socks for work as well so I can't escape them!

Momma Val: If I may suggest a solution for the cracked hands. Udderly Smooth. It's an awesome cream found at your local drug store. (CVS) I live by it!

We have that too. And now that the husband is away at academy I vacuumed all of them up (luckily a dyson can do anything). And it's kind of nice. On the other hand, I miss him a lot.
I haven't seen any belt calluses on the husband, but his belt barely stays on since he is so skinny. I think the belt keepers cling together for dear life.
Also, I use Mary Kay satin hands to save my hands during winter. And apparently it will remove a lot without irritation, like car grease, but that is not speaking from any experience with that on my part.

LOL! When I saw this picture, even before reading the text I knew exactly what I was looking at!!!! Black sock lint!!! Uggg this stuff drives me crazy. I'm always washing the bath mat b/c of this stuff. I have to chuckle at this posting. Sorry you have to pick them up by hand. Ugg that would drive me up the wall. We have a policy that The Mr. must pick up toe lint and sock lint right after shedding those thick black socks - and into the hamper those socks go. So far we have a 40% success rate. All well. I appreciate the effort.

Ha ha! Oh yes, back in my uniform wearing days, I knew those little black fuzzies quite well! I actually switched from the cotton socks to the polyester/microfiber type socks. Those don't shed. Just FYI.

LOL thats too funny.

My hubby's boots kill his feet and he wears 2 pairs of socks. White go on first and then then black. Just an idea.

D has always worn wool/polyester socks with his work boots and the police issue wool socks here too so i have yet to encounter these...although my new black rug contributes similar fuzz balls to my house at the moment

A broom with rubber bristles (marketed here as a patio broom) works a treat on those little sock fuzz balls. It also lifts long hair off the carpet that even my Dyson animal refuses to remove.
Thanks for the giggle.

I had never thought this was a "law enforcement" problem... I just thought it was a DH problem!!! Our carpet looks just like yours-- and I have terrible eyesight, and I'm always afraid that the fuzz balls are actually little bugs! I am SO glad we found each other's blogs!

Christopher- Nope, no callouses on hips yet. and no beer belly either! I know he was sore for a while because he was wearing a leather rig and then he "smartened" up and switched to nylon.

There is a lot of good advice on here guys! I think I am going to pick up one of those brooms with rubber bristles (thanks Terri) as we have a lot of fuzz balls and a lot of hair (thanks to me) that I can't vacuum up.

They bite! Transfer to foot wear, if one changes undies just to freshen up in a hurry they transfer to undies one infested socked foot at a time. A pinch here a pinch there. People say they don't exist yet are identifiable. We have lived with parasites since day one! They have inhabited the earth much longer than you and I! Can't see viruses with the naked eye, yet have plagued/benefitted the living since the beginning of time.

My ex husband worked with concrete and his hands would get so chapped and cracked. Finally I bought Cornhuskers, AND Udderly Smooth(O'Keefe's, I have recently discovered). After his shower we would slather one of the lotions on(goop it on is more like it!) Then we would put plastic bags over his hands, and a pair of (CLEAN) socks over that. He would leave the treatment on while he watched evening programs. The next night we would repeat the process using the other cream. After a few nights of this his hands were pretty well healed and he switched to just generously applying the cream after his shower an in the morning before he went to work!
