what i found in the dryer

I'm used to the occasional chapstick, folded up paper, or even a knife. But, today I found an earplug and a bullet. My first thought was, "OMG! Our house could've blown up!" While I'm not sure this is true of ammunition in a dryer, I'm sure it's not a very good idea to test out that theory. I don't know, maybe it's been on Mythbusters before, or maybe one of you can fill me in. Can bullets in a dryer go off?

My second thought made me smile. I realized that I am going to find things like this throughout the years. I'll probably have to check pockets better than I have been, AND I've never seen so many pockets in my life! All of HF's clothes seems to have pockets and more pockets, and secret hidden pockets. I think I'll start a list of things I find in the dryer. Other than these 2 items, the last "freaky" thing I found in there was a giant pocket knife. I heard "Ka-thunk! Ka-thunk! Ka-thunk!" When I went to check it out, not only was it the biggest pocket knife I'd ever seen in my life inside, but it was OPEN. I checked for slashed clothes. I'm pretty sure that if there weren't so many pockets and hidden pockets on his pants, I would've discovered it.

HF has just finished reading On Combat by Dave Grossman and has asked me to read it. I didn't want to, but he said it was really important to him that I do, so I guess I'll go git to it. While I'm away reading, answer this for me: What have you accidentally washed or dried?

Yikes. On your bullet in the dryer question, after searching online to check my answer the standard response is that it could happen, but it is not likely. If such a thing did happen, the most vicitm would be the clothes in the dryer.

With our kids interest in rock collecting, our dryer regularly clangs with rocks big and small. To be honest, I washed and dried a bullet or two in my firing range days as well.

Yep...Bullets in Dryer...we've had that one. Handcuff key...had that too--often.

Husband received a new tactical shirt to try out, thought maybe the shoulder armor should be removable but couldn't figure it out. It was MY expertise with searching a gazillion pockets that found the hidden flap and pulled the things out. Just one more thing that should go in our "LEO Wife: The Survival Handbook"!

Ha! Funny! Thankfully my husband does his own work clothes separately. He prefers scented detergent, "cause a guy sweatin' in polyester for numerous hours needs scented detergent." And I use unscented for everything else. Don't know about the bullets in the dryer BUT it does have a lead tip so that could be a concern as far as contaminating everything else in water or tossing in the heat? I dunno? I do have a rule about finding any money in the washer OR dryer, clean your pockets or it's mine :)

Josh is suppose to dryclean all of his uniforms. So I have never found a bullet in the dryer. However, they are sitting random places around the house.

ok so I am at work when I get a call from the mrs. This could be anything from the normal "what are you doing" to "Im in an ambulance" since she is pregnant with a high risk pregnancy. She is audiably upset and still crying a little. I start asking the whats wrong questions. she relunctantly starts the whole description of her day to lead into the fact that she has just washed my passport.
Now she is really crying. I do my best via phone to calm her down and tell her its no big deal. she continues to be upset. So the next day I felt so bad for her, I had to buy her some flowers. Which in man land should have made things better. But in girl land it made her cry more and feel guilty for washing my passport. Just can't win. Its a funny story now, but at the time it was a little painful.

We're always finding 9mil rounds in weird places... dryer, couch cushions, miscellaneous rounds in vehicles.

Yeah, I suppose it's just one of those things. :)

How funny! I guess it's a good thing my husband is not in law enforcement and the noise makers in my dryer are a little more ordinary! :-)

I found another bullet today! But I caught it before it went in the dryer. It did go through the wash however.

Dori-There really should be a LEO wife survival guide! It could be like "Chicken soup for the Police Wife's soul" or "Whiskey shots for the Police Wife's soul".

This weekend I found purple latex gloves in the washer. I wasn't even washing his uniform, so I have no clue how they got in there.

Yep, right there with ya. Bullets, ear plugs, handcuff keys, gloves...I've found them all. And I also know our vacuum will suck up a bullet, as well. Though I'm not sure how safe that is either!
