HF: Rad instructor

red man suit image found here
HF made it home a couple of days ago from R.A.D. training. He is now a certified instructor. He said it was life changing. Any preconceived notions he had about why women didn't defend themselves were changed in the training he received. He came home with an increased level of sympathy for survivors of sexual assault and rape.

I didn't realize how physical it would be. My husband came home to me with scratches and bruises all over his body. Part of me feels a little upset. It's a great thing he's a part of, but my already tired and sore husband is going to have over 40 women kick him in the crotch and then he comes home to me only to have to go to work for the graveyard shift? Are you kidding me?

On the one hand, it's a concern of mine that HF will be sacrificing his body for this and potentially having his neck and his privates broken. On the other hand, I'm a big supporter of the R.A.D program and I plan on attending a class, so I understand the necessity behind what he will have to do as an instructor.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what R.A.D is, check it out here.

Thanks for the link. I was asking my hubby what that meant the other times you mentioned it and he had no idea either. He just got the DTI and came home very sore and tired too but no scratches or scrapes. Congrats to HF!!! This picture looks like a kids action figure :)

You must be so proud! What a great thing. (Even if he did have to sacrifice his privates. tee heee)

There are many different opportunities that will happen to your HF as time goes on...my hubby opted to be a Phlebotomist and went through training..now he has to stick drunks and get called out on nights off to stick drunks. But, that's what being part of this "brotherhood" is all about...have fun with it..;) It could prepare him for SWAT or training new recruits down the road.

Congrats to your husband for completing the RAD course! It's awesome that he will be helping women learn how to defend themselves.
My husband recently became a RAD instructor and will be teaching his first class next week. He also has a goofy red suit - in fact he uses a picture of it as his Facebook photo!

I'm against ANYTHING that harms the boys.

Just kidding. It sounds like it is a really good thing that he is doing but I get your concern. :-) It's bad enough they are gone so much but if they come home all sore, what then?

Ps. Be careful with the "injured boys" act. Next thing you know they start the "would you kiss 'em and make 'em better" routine.

Sorry. It made me laugh. You can delete it if it's waaaaay inappropriate. :)

and my verification is BACIA - awfully close to bacio - italian KISS. !!!!!

Oh yes Meadowlark, mine has tried that one, kiss and make it better. Good Lordy. I just had to bust up laughing when my 2-year-old fell on his rear and insisted I kiss that. Pahahahahahaha! BOYS!

Hubs has helped teach some self-defense classes, and they're ESSENTIAL for women! I'm such a weakling that I thought if I ever got accosted it would be no battle, but there are some sweet pressure point moves I've learned that require VERY little effort and yet are very effective.

At least they didn't try gouging his eyes with keys! That was one recommendation at the self-defense class...

I had to fight the red man in self-defense gym class in high school. I had to do it in front of the entire class. I considered faking a seizure to get out of it.

Funny, I never considered the fact that my embarrassment was nothing compared to a cop getting his nads crunched in by dozens of high school girls.
