my dream home

It all started with innocent browsing on Architectural Digest when I just happened to stumble across my dream home. Now I want to buy a house and gut it out and redesign it, and redecorate it with Monterey furniture, and southwestern antiques. Seriously, all I've been doing the last couple of nights is looking at what homes are for sale in the cities we want to live in. I found a couple of potential homes and got really excited, but HF brought me back down from my crazed episode and reminded me that we aren't quite ready to buy our own home yet, but soon. Soon as in the next couple of years. And even then I won't be able to have Diane Keaton's home. That's okay. But I would sure like to emulate the decor.

I go through house hungry phases. Right now is one of those phases. Mostly it has to do with my pervy next door neighbor and the fact that we live down the street from a variety of services such as the food bank, some drug houses, and many state sponsered housing complexes. That brings a lot of "excitement" to our neck of the woods. Not the kind of neighborhood you take your kid trick-or-treating in. In fact, on Halloween, our neighborhood is dead. Children are not heard or seen 'round these parts on Halloween. At night, the chidren and I are lulled to sleep by the sounds of trains and police sirens. Except now, the police sirens make me think of HF, which is kind of nice. . . I guess. Anyway, our neighborhood is one of the worst in the city, and I am dying to get out. I'm all for helping the homeless and all that, but when you are outside playing with your kids and a crazy hippie in a motorized wheelchair comes towards you at top speed, laughing maniacally and mumbling outloud something about "taking you home with him" (true story), it's just not where you want to raise a family, you know?

So these are some pictures from Diane Keaton's gorgeous home that you can see online at the Architectural Digest. I love the Spanish Colonial style. I love southwestern. I know a lot of people don't, but this is just stunning to me. In my opinion, she has achieved perfection with the design and decoration of this home. What do you think? Are you with me on this home, or do you prefer another style?

That is a beautiful home. I would LOVE to have that Library :)

Whoa, impressive home.

I like a western style like this one or a southern style with columns.

So, what did I do? Move North where I get to look at neither type.

I don't like the OUTSIDE of Spanish-inspired homes, but I love the inside. The plain white-washed walls, the arches, the tilework... it's great! I especially love the "library"; I want one of those for my house!

My ideal house is a larger, grander version of the craftsman bungalow!

It's funny. My house is more Georgian Colonial, if that is such a thing. But I have little bits of Spanish Colonial here and there. In fact, even though it's Pennsylvania, there are a few houses in our neighborhood that are true Spanish Colonials. I believe one of the architects that helped build our neighborhood must have had Spanish blood.

So yeah, I agree with your taste. Very beautiful. :)

Oh, I so agree on the Library! I could just be happy living in there. I love the house that we live in currently, and it's big enough for the six of us, plus my in-laws, and also at the moment, my sister in law and her 3 kids. I would like it more if it were a single story, instead of two, since my room is directly below the kitchen and it gets a little loud when there are 11 people up there! lol.

I love the style of Diane Keatons house, I love large open airy floorplans!

(I hope that you can find a dream house to raise your babies in, soon! it's no fun to live in fear!)

How sad is it that the best part of the home to me was how CLEAN it is?! Ha! It sure is gorgeous. We bought a 1300 square foot home before we had kids ... should have thought that one through a little bit better. :o)

Ok, "taking you home with him"...I nearly died. Too funny!!!
And I love the exterior of spanish style homes...but I am much more of a cottage chic style lover than the southwestern style, although Ms. Keaton's home is amazinggg!!
I go through Hungry for a house phases too, partially cause I have a thing for houses, not so much that I am ready to move! :) We call where we are our forever home, or at least till Husby retires. After that...it's the sweet retirement home on the beach for us!!

I adore that library. And I'm a fan of Southwestern, having grown up in the Southwest.

I'd move in! We are renting right now and buying a house in a GREAT neighborhood. I know how hard it is to be a cops wife in a bad neighborhood, but never had it as bad as what you do. I am so sorry. One of the reasons we are seitching towns is because after my husband's shooting in Dec he wants us OUT of the city.
I hope you can get a house soon!

This home is lovely. I agree that it is near perfection when it comes to this style. I enjoy looking at it, but I prefer something more simple with cleaner lines to in my own home. See, I have an urban condo with only 400 square feet, so every inch counts, and there is no room for frills or embellishments, only simple details. I'm in the process of organizing it now. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics from AD.
