likeable links

Raindog Blue has been having lots of guest posts on his blog lately. Sister Copinherhair was one of these guests bloggers and she wrote something really special about her cop boyfriend that I loved. Check it out here.

HF's latest favorite website:  Death Valley Magazine.

On Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs from Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's book On Combat.

And finally, this is something that HF wants me to do with him. Cowboy Action Shooting. Can you believe this? Apparently, it's a sport/competition and everyone has to be in character. That means a costume and an alias. Seems pretty dorky to me. And I'm married to someone that plays airsoft and collects Vietnam War gear so he can do reenactments. Lame. If he wants to do a weekend getaway to do some cowboy action shooting, I'll play along. Would you do this?

Thank you for listing Ammo in the Dryer. All the links are great to check out!

I probably wouldn't do it, but then again the husband and I went shooting on our first date...so he might be able to convince me!

Is it too much to suggest your alias be Calamity Jane? All you need are some big ol' sunglasses and a terrible approach to gun safety. You'd be a hit!! ;)

Thanks for bringing those to our attention. I laughed after reading a few of the posts...brightened my day!

Yee-haw! Saddle up little Lady! I'm sure you'll have a great time. You might also like other role-playing games, and renaissance fairs. P.S. You should totally make him dress up like Batman in the bedroom for you after this. Wait, what? I've said too much.

Gosh, thanks for the shout out. I kinda like the "Calamity Jane" thing too. ;)

Dear Mrs. Fuzz,
Like you, I thought Sister Copinherhair did a really special piece for Raindogblue. And RDB is one of my favorite blogs.

I am also a big fan of Gia! And I am enjoying looking at the other blogs you noted.

Now, as to the Wild West. I am an amateur expert on this period, especially for women. You should not be afraid--that apron in your picture was Necessary out of the range.

Women wore them to remind the men that they had enough work already without changing the wheel on the wagon. It was also status to wear a CLEAN apron. You are good to go.

If you want some history books, just give me a shout out. I have two in mind plus those historical cookbooks I am always trying to find.

It was the women who won the West, you know--one load of laundry at a time. Otherwise, everybody there would smell like desert skunk and eat nothing but rotgut and jerky. Civilization belonged to the sisters--ladle in one hand, shotgun in the other.

You know, I've always prided myself that cops don't have to do the re-enactment thing, since we get to do the real thing. Seems more like a firefighter pursuit to me. I guess HF makes the exception. Sigh. I'll refrain from referring to it as "dorky", since he's a brother in blue. I'll satisfy myself by believing he was into it before he became the police, and he's just weaning himself off of it. But if he plays Call of Duty with the headsets on, all bets are off :)
