what i found in the dryer part II

Anyone need any blue nitrile exam gloves? I've got about a kazillion of them. I've been getting better at thoroughly checking all pockets when doing laundry, but these are showing up A LOT.

3 year old Luke has also discovered the wonderful usage of pockets. I find cars, police action figures, rubberbands, and more in his pockets. Those things make me smile. I guess I expect that. One of those things you were told would happen when you had boys. They really are made of snakes and snails and puppy dogs' tails.

. . . And I guess I kind of smile when I discover things in HF's pockets as well.

Previously found in the dryer:

bullets
earplugs

Well at least he is using them which is a good pratice not to get out of. If you haven't all ready done so, Wash his work clothes separate from the families.

I teach my Rookies the first thing you do when you get home is take off your shoes at the front door. Do not walk in your Kingdom with boots that have been through hell days.

secondly- strip down and put your clothes in a separate basket and wash them separate. Your Clothes have been through a day in hell and you have no idea what type of contamination is on them.

Third- Wash your hands & arms at the very least, if not a shower.

Then and ONLY then may you pick up and hug on your wife and kids. Do NOT touch them until you are "decontaminated from the "Streets of Hell".

I work in a large inter city department so this is how we roll. I guess the smaller towns and suburbia might not get the contamination that we get on a daily bases.

I would however still pratice this kingdom safe drill.

We are too busy battling ants these days in our laundry room, so no telling what neat things are hidden in our dryer.

Ha! Wow! Oddly enough I have not found any bullets, earplugs OR gloves in the dryer. I have found (throughout the wash as I put it into the dryer or after it's been dried) gum wrappers some with and some without gum, receipts, tattered bits of paper and kleenex. Oh, and money which I'm sorry to say is the laundresses property once you turn over your dirty laundry to her (me). LOL

Oops, we also do not wash Cop Dad's work clothes with our families clothes. Besides lead, there are all kinds of other yuck that should not be getting into our wash. He has a cheap over the door mesh hamper (think from Walgreens or Walmart) for just his stuff.

Our first range bullet was found in our dryer two weeks ago....thank goodness they don't explode in the dryer!! :)

"Hey can I get some gloves from you guys?" the officers often ask.
"Of course!" Happy always answers.

Now I know where they go.

Texas Ghostrider- that is great advice.

His first time home in the uniform, I made the mistake of charging him and jumping on him at the door and found that that didn't work on a number of levels. Mostly, I realized that there could've been who knows what on his uniform. He usually changes before he comes home. They have a laundry service at the station.

At least it wasn't a cell phone. Last month FH was trying to be a good husband after being away to work, so he thought he'd help out by doing a load of laundry. He doesn't look in pockets and the phone I got in December and was able to transfer my pics and video of my kids since my 3 year old was 5 months was discovered after the rinse cycle in the washer. One of the saddest days of my life at the time.

Natalie,
Take out the battery of the cell phone and leave the cover off. Turn on the oven to 150 and leave it in there for about 30 mins or so. You will need to watch it but mine was good as new after a night in a Texas thunderstorm on my motorcycle. My would not even power until that trick.....

I find other people's IDs sometimes in my fiance's uniform pockets. Also, lots of gloves, bullets, knives, cigarettes, and (of course) pocket change.

Just an FYI for Librarian-in-training...a bullet can indeed explode in the dryer--but most likely won't and if it does it's only taking out the dryer. Unless you have a gas dryer. Then you get a new house. Mythbusters. See? TV can be educational!

Happy Medic, you had me cracking up with your comment. :D

Husband's uniform goes straight to the dry cleaners, except BDUs which get washed at home. Unfortunately we use "public" (coin-op) washer/dryers so I think there is enough 'nasty' in there on it's own that, well... probably doesn't matter if DH's work clothes get washed with ours or not. yuck.

Although I was so grossed out once by the likely Hep C contamination that I wouldn't even touch *that* uniform...
